Brendan O'Neill

Brendan O'Neill is a passionate defender of freedom of speech. He is the editor of Spiked and a writer for The Sun and The Spectator. Mr. O'Neill argues that tensions in society are a good thing, and that it is sometimes our “duty to offend”: this was the theme of a well-known speech he gave at the Oxford Union in 2015 and was also the title of his collection of essays published by Connor Court. This, however, seems to be in conflict with today’s popular notion of human vulnerability. Mr. O'Neill will explain how we should deal with this notion of human vulnerability, in order to be able to perform our duty to offend and create the conditions for intellectual daring and social progress.
